In the first of our player profile series, we chat to goalkeeper and prolific shot-stopper Liam Peverley and learn more about him outside of football. Liam joined Durham City AFC in November 2022, as part of the new squad rebuild and has played in all fixtures apart from the clubs first game back against Norton & Stockton Ancients. Liam has previously played at teams such as Sunderland West End and Doxford Park, but has acclimatised well to Durham and already proven his brilliant shot-stopping capabilities and fantastic disruption.

How did you get into football?

Since I was a young kid at school. But I've only been a goalkeeper for about six years, as I fancied a changed of position just for a laugh on a Sunday and now it's turned out to be my permanent position

Who do you support?

There is only one football team in the Northeast to support, which is Sunderland!

Who is your favourite football player, past or present?

Past favourite footballer is probably Pele, as he is one of the most iconic. But for present, it has to be Ross Stewart as he's banging them in for Sunderland

Favourite football moment? Can be your own or one you have experienced.

Got be Sunderland getting out of League One and back to the Championship for me

What is your go to song to get you pumped up for match day?

Can't beat a bit of rave!

Any superstitions or pre-game rituals you have to do?

I just like to make sure I am nice and fresh for the game. Get stretched before hand and then warmed up!

What is your favourite food? Can be a meal or cuisine

Can never go wrong with burger and chips!

Do you have any other hobbies outside of football? What do you like to do in your downtime?

I like to do swimming and a bit of gym work in my spare time

If money wasn’t an issue, where in the world would you choose to go, either on holiday or to live?

I would love to live in the South of France. Maybe one day...

If you could play for any football team in the world (that isn’t Durham City of course) who would it be and why?

It would have to be Sunderland, as it’s the team I support and grew up at
