This week, we chat to midfielder Curtis Layfield and get to know more about the player outside of just football. The 21-year-old joined Durham City in November 2023, as part of the new squad rebuild. Curtis formerly played for Durham City a few seasons back and also Bishop Auckland.

How did you get into football?

I can’t remember a time that I didn’t play football to be honest. Ever since I could walk I was given a football and I’ve never looked back.

Who do you support?

The team I support is Middlesbrough

Who is your favourite football player, past or present?

My favourite footballer is easily Lionel Messi. He's such a skilful and technical player.

Favourite football moment? Can be your own or one you have experienced.

My favourite football moment would have to be winning the county cup as a youngster with Bishop Auckland.

What is your go to song to get you pumped up for match day?

I think this changes every week, but at the moment I’m enjoying a bit of Eminem before a game

Any superstitions or pre-game rituals you have to do?

I wouldn’t say I really have a pre game ritual, I just make sure I am prepared and turn up with the right mindset

What is your favourite food? Can be a meal or cuisine

My favourite meal would have to be a fillet steak with chips and veg. Can’t forget the peppercorn sauce as well!

Do you have any other hobbies outside of football? What do you like to do in your downtime?

I go to the gym as much as possible to keep myself fit. I also enjoy going for a nice meal and a few beers whenever possible.

If money wasn’t an issue, where in the world would you choose to go, either on holiday or to live?

I’ve always wanted to go to the Maldives and would love to travel around South America at some point.

If you could play for any football team in the world (that isn’t Durham City of course) who would it be and why?

It would have to be Middlesbrough cause it’s the team I support, but apart from them I’d have to say Barcelona.
