After yesterdays important victory, we caught up with Durham City AFC manager, Wayne Gredziak to get his thoughts on yesterdays win and how things are going with the club as whole.

It’s nice to finally get the monkey off our backs.

Welcome to ‘The Citizens’ supporters and what a day it was yesterday to finally see a Durham City AFC record a win. I would like to say on record how proud I am of each one of this new look squad, which we have worked hard on making sure it’s sustainable for us to move back up the divisions. For them to record our FIRST win in over a year, 435 days to be precise. In my opinion it was a well deserved pre season win yesterday against a very good side Seaton Delaval side, which I would like to thank Keith Graydon ‘Rasher’ for their hospitality yesterday. What a great well run club Seaton Delaval AFC is, with promising times coming the clubs way in the next few months .

I can promise you that this club means as much as it does to you the supporters as it does me. I have always said this club is a sleeping giant and through previous regimes it has be ran into the ground and evidently that’s why it is were we are in the pyramid system now. But, if we can run it correctly on and of the pitch, we can give you fans a team to be proud of and like I have been seeing on socials, the supporters will return and help invest into our long term goal of Northern League Football once again. I would like to thank you all!

So, myself and the management team purposely set out on a difficult Pre Season programme, mainly playing Northern League Sides. As I feel you get no benefit playing teams below you in the pyramid system or equal to.

We have played Sunderland West End, Chester Le Street Town and Seaton Delaval. In all three games, we have took the lead and in two of those, we have headed into half time with the lead. It's early days of course, but to me it shows this squad is capable of good things this season and going forward.

We have four more Pre Season Games before we start our league fixtures, starting away from home against New Durham FC. It's always nice to start the league with a local Derby. Hopefullh we get to see you supporters return and come watch this exciting young team play this season, because I promise you won’t be disappointed and the team will make you proud  to support Durham City AFC. I’m looking forward to a exciting season and help in bringing the good times back!

Thanks
Wayne Gredziak
