We're back with our 'Get to know you' player segments and this time we chat to midfielder, Toby Sparrow, to get to know more about the player outside of just football. The 18-year-old joined Durham City in the summer 2023, as part of the new squad rebuild. Toby formerly played for Willington AFC.

How did you get into football?
I started playing for a local team when I was about 5 and played in goal but quickly got bored of standing around and started playing outfield.

Who do you support?
Middlesbrough, I started going to games when I was about 8 or 9.

Who is your favourite football player, past or present?
Jonny Howson, proper Boro legend and put in one of the best midfield performances I’ve seen live against Spurs a few years ago.

Favourite football moment? Can be your own or one you have witnessed.
The win against RCA a few weeks ago was massive and you could tell it was a big win for everyone at the club. Lots more of those moments to come this season, that first league win will be a big one when we get it.

What is your go to song to get you pumped up for match day?
I usually prefer something more chilled like Dave as I know I’ll be switched on as soon as the game kicks off

Any superstitions or pre-game rituals you have to do?
Not at all, I’m quite chilled out so it doesn’t take me much to get ready for a game.

What is your favourite food? Can be a meal or cuisine
Got to be Indian, you can’t beat a curry on a Saturday after a game.

Do you have any other hobbies outside of football? What do you like to do in your downtime?
Not a lot to be honest, my life revolves around football whether it’s playing, watching or coaching. When I’ve got done downtime I just like to put something random on Netflix or YouTube.

If money wasn’t an issue, where in the world would you choose to go, either on holiday or to live?
I always said I’d like to see what Brazil was like as I think the football and the culture would be amazing but I don’t fancy living somewhere that hot.

If you could play for any football team in the world (that isn’t Durham City of course) who would it be and why?
When I was younger it would’ve been Barcelona in that era of Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc. but nowadays it’d have to be Boro
