This week, we chat to midfielder Adetunji Benson, also know as Teejay. The 27-year-old joined Durham City in November 2023, as part of the new squad rebuild. Teejay formerly played for Doxford Park and Wear United before joining up with the Citizens.
How did you get into football?
Yeah, I got into football about the age of five. I usually go with my uncle to watch footie in the stadium. I started playing at the age of six and have always loved to play football.
Who do you support?
I’m a Liverpool fan
Who is your favourite football player, past or present?
Uhm, that’s a tricky question. I would say there are loads of prolific players and I believe every football player is good in their own way.
Favourite football moment? Can be your own or one you have experienced.
The Liverpool game in the champions league final versus AC Milan, Liverpool were 3-0 down in the first half then cameback in the second half by scoring three goals and went straight to extra time and won the game on penalties.
What is your go to song to get you pumped up for match day?
Definitely a rap song
Any superstitions or pre-game rituals you have to do?
Not really. I just like to get in the zone, so I like to listen to music with my headphones on.
What is your favourite food? Can be a meal or cuisine.
Jollof rice and chicken
Do you have any other hobbies outside of football? What do you like to do in your downtime?
I listen to music, do some drawing, as well as going to the gym to keep fit.
If money wasn’t an issue, where in the world would you choose to go, either on holiday or to live?
For me, I would have to say Spain. It's just such a wonderful country.
